The mission of Faith Tapestry Community Church is "to be a multicultural gathering of LGBTQ+ seekers, woven together by faith and Love." Back in 2015, when the only predominantly LGBTQ+ church in the New Haven area closed, the Reverend Dr. Daniel Rodriguez Schlorff, with robust co-leadership from a ministry student at Hartford Seminary, founded a small group of LGBTQ+ Christians. A small group began to meet monthly for Sunday evening worship, and then gradually, we added a monthly MeetUp to study the Bible at a local pub. Now worshiping more regularly, on Sunday mornings, and with new seekers woven in with the original flock from the church that closed, the Core Team (church board) felt led by God to find a network of support for our growing church. They re-cast the church's vision during the COVID-19 quarantine of 2020. By getting clear about who we need to be now, it became obvious that we needed to partner with a tradition which is deeply committed to the difficult work of intersectional reconciliation, acknowledging and celebrating who we are in the categories of race, gender, sexuality, faith, and in any social location. Our new ministry partners welcome us with open arms and recognize us fully as a church, just as we are.
